NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 30 — President William Ruto has nominated Dorcas Oduor for the position of Attorney General (AG). Oduor, currently serving as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), is a High Court advocate with extensive legal qualifications.
She holds a Master’s degree in International Conflict Management and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi, as well as a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Oduor has held several prominent positions within the ODPP, including Deputy Director, Head of the Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes Department, Deputy Chief State Counsel, and State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General. Her experience and leadership in these roles highlight her qualifications for the AG position.
In a statement, President Ruto praised Oduor for her “unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law.” If approved by the National Assembly, Dorcas Agik Oduor will become Kenya’s first female Attorney General. The announcement was made in a communique to the Cabinet, authored by Chief of Staff Felix Koskei.
Oduor’s nomination follows a recent Cabinet reshuffle by President Ruto, in which Rebecca Miano, initially nominated for the AG position, was reassigned to the Tourism Ministry. This reshuffle was part of the government’s response to recent anti-government protests.
Former AG Justin Muturi, who was dismissed along with the entire Cabinet (except for Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi), was nominated to replace Moses Kuria as the Public Service Cabinet Secretary.
