NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 2 — Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied reports that the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) could join ODM-led Azimio Movement as misleading.
Musyoka who spoke on Wednesday as OKA signed a pact with a new coalition member — NARC Kenya — said the alliance will not fold up to join another formation but rather invited other formations to join OKA.
He said OKA is open to likeminded political formations, adding that such a dialogue will be open and fully consultative.
The Wiper leader said that several political parties had expressed interest in joining the coalition.
“There is no urgency, we have up to April 9,2022 to form any political coalition and we have made it clear to Kenyans that others are free to join us and not the other way round,” said Kalonzo.
He however did not have kind words for the ‘Kenya Kwanza’ alliance made up of Deputy President William Ruto, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula.
Asked by journalists if OKA will join Ruto’s camp, he said, “Hiyo ni Kenya Kwisha,” implying that the alliance would “finish” the nation.
“We will not meet with people who have stolen public resources and we will not even meet with them halfway,” he said.
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who read the alliance’s joint statement said OKA coalition agreement will be officially deposited with the Registrar of Political Parties on February 28, 2022.
After registration, the principals plan to officially and publicly unveil the OKA coalition, and lay out their vision which they believe will transform Kenya.
“We have lined up a series of public engagement activities to be hosted by our constituent political parties and partners in various parts of the country,” the statement indicated.
NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua who joined OKA on Monday promised a ‘shock’ announcement on the choice of presidential candidate.
She revealed that OKA will settle on and announce their preferred presidential flag bearer in a decision that will take many by surprise.
“Kenyans will be shocked with the person we will announce to be our presidential candidate. In one and half months we will name that person,” she said during a tour of Kirinyaga County.
