85pc of Kenyans support ICC prosecutions

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 14 – A new poll released just hours before the International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo reveals the names of six Kenyan suspects in the post-election violence, shows the ICC prosecutions enjoy 85 percent support locally.

The findings from the latest survey conducted by Synovate between December 12 and 14 said 73 percent of Kenyans were confident that the ICC process would succeed.

“The results suggest that Kenyans overwhelmingly support the process as they expect it will significantly reduce the possibilities of repeat violence in 2012,” a statement from Synovate said.

“Further, Kenyans are very confident that the process will be of great success and they expect those named as having the greatest responsibility to resign from public office (if they currently hold such position)”
