It’s not a myth anymore. Our home is dying. But there’s still hope only if we all come together and save it. You may not have the power to change laws or lobby for conservation but there are a few things you can do.

Here are some adjustments that you can make to your life that will help save our planet:
1. Avoid plastic bags
Plastic causes great harm to our environment in so many ways. Educate yourself, to become a better environmentalist. Learn more about it. Learn what to do, how to help. Your smallest habit can be one of the biggest factors in the deterioration of our planet.
The earth and its animals are gravely affected by plastics. Animals both terrestrial and aquatic, eat plastic bags which cause serious health problem that eventually lead a very painful and slow death.
2. Plant Trees
Yes, you can do it. Planting Trees can seem like a huge and unachievable task, but you can do it by surrounding your compound with trees. Encourage your family members and friends to do the same, and together we can make our planet green again.
3. Volunteer
Volunteering in an organization that helps to preserve the planet and spread awareness anywhere you possibly can. There several within Kenya including the sea turtle rescue in Watamu.
4. Reduce Water Usage
Monitor your water usage and turn off your taps, if you are not using it. By doing so, we’ll save a billion gallons of water.
5. Skip the bus, take a walk or ride
This is not just good for the environment but also for your health. Carbon dioxide emissions by your car harm the environment. Opt for a walk or ride your bicycle for short distances trips. When going on long trips with family or friends, try carpooling in multiple cars.
6. Turn off the lights
Every time you do not need them, turn them off save energy and avoid global warming.
7. Recycle
Try to reuse as much as possible. Because recycling helps reduce extracting raw material from the planet and save resources for the future. Give away what you may not be using. They are tons of people in need of what you might want to get rid of. Find a place where you can donate like a charity or children’s home.
BONUS
Do not litter. Littering is not just unhygienic but also really harmful to the environment. Dumbing garbage into water creates water pollution which harm and kills aquatic animals in the most painful possible way.
“It is our collective and individual responsibility … to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live.” —Dalai Lama
We only get one planet. Together, let’s preserve it.
