ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, June 24 — Kenya was among the top-performing countries at the 2025 Africa Public Service Day (APSD) celebrations held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, receiving three awards for innovation and transparency in public service delivery.
The biennial event, themed “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps,” brought together public sector agencies from across the continent to showcase initiatives aimed at improving public administration.
Tharaka University won the award for Best Innovation in Service Delivery for its Poultry Melovax project, a locally developed scientific solution. The Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) was named first runner-up in the Most Accountable and Transparent Organization category for its Jaza Miti Initiative. Kenya also secured second runner-up position in the Best Pavilion category for its exhibition stand.
Other Kenyan institutions showcased a range of innovations. The State Department for Internal Security demonstrated its Automated Reporting Management Information System (ARMIS), aimed at improving data reporting. Baringo National Polytechnic exhibited a cost-effective water recycling project, while Huduma Kenya introduced its Universal Agent Model. The Kenya Ports Authority presented its KARGOPAY digital cargo payment system, and Kisiwa National Polytechnic displayed a prototype of a multi-functional hospital bed.
The APSD celebrations included exhibitions, symposiums, and panel discussions focusing on institutional reform, citizen engagement, and public sector resilience. The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among African governments.
Kenya’s delegation was led by Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development. Speaking at the awards ceremony, she noted that the recognition reflects the country’s efforts to strengthen public sector performance through innovation and institutional reform.
