NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 30 – The health ministry reported 151 additional coronavirus cases in the country over a period of 24 hours lapsing on Wednesday, raising the number of documented infections to 38,529.
During a regular briefing on the status of pandemic, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman said the newly reported cases were diagnosed from 2,927 samples analyzed over the same period
The country’s recovery toll now stood at 24,908 after 168 more people were cleared including 105 placed under home-based care.
Nairobi accounted for the highest cases at thirty-two followed by Nakuru (24), Kisumu (22), Garissa (14), Mombasa (10), Meru (8), Kajiado (8), Kisii (6 ), Bomet (5), Kiambu (5) and Siaya (3).
Uasin Gishu, Kilifi, West Pokot, Marsabit and Murang’a each reported two cases while Kakamega, Bungoma, Nyamira and Kitui counties recorded a single case each.
The new cases included six foreigners and are distributed among ninety seven males and fifty four females. The youngest is a year old-child and the oldest is a 82-year-old.
Aman also announced the death of four more patients who succumbed to coronavirus-related complications raising the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 711.
He noted that the country is focused at maintaining the positivity below the 5 per cent threshold warning of fluctuations if proper measures are not taken.
“We need to maintain the rate because if we do not, it can quickly pass the threshold, we need to abide by the all the measures stipulated by the Ministry of Health; wearing masks, washing hands and observing personal hygiene,” Aman added.
