NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 19 – The Football Kenya Federation has announced that a minute’s silence will be observed in all matches across all the leagues in honour of fallen Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, who tragically passed away Thursday afternoon in a chopper crash alongside nine other military personnel.
The chopper carrying the Kenya Defense Forces boss crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet, shortly after take off, claiming nine other lives.
“The men and women of our armed forces have consistently displayed unwavering commitment and sacrifice in ensuring the security and stability of our beloved nation. Their contributions extend beyond the boundaries of their duties, often extending to safeguarding events and gatherings, including our football matches,” a dispatch from the FKF CEO Barry Otieno said.
It added; “In light of this unfortunate event and in recognition of the invaluable service rendered by General Francis Ogolla and the other fallen soldiers, we, the Football Kenya Federation, wish to honour their memory and express our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues.”
The Kenya Defense Forces football team, Ulinzi Stars, are scheduled to play against Tusker FC on Sunday in a league match, the day the military boss is supposed to be laid to rest.
It is still not yet clear whether they will request a postponement of the match, in honor of their boss.
The basketball team had initially been scheduled to play Equity Dumas, but the game had already been cancelled erstwhile due to the unavailability of the Nyayo Gymnasium.
