NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – Peter Leitoro was on Tuesday appointed acting director of the Kenya Wild Service (KWS) to replace Julius Kipng’etich who quit last week.
The Board of Trustees said the appointment takes effect immediately.
Until his appointment, Leitoro was serving as KWS deputy director in charge of security for the last seven years.
Kipng’etich who retired after eight years at the helm of the parastatal said he was leaving to pursue personal interests.
“I have enjoyed every one of my eight years in this great organisation, and I leave it today in position for a strong future. I am proud of my fellow employees and I wish them the very best,” Kipng’etich said at the time.
KWS Board Chairman David Mwiraria praised Kipngetich, saying he had transformed the organisation from poor management to an organisation that has raised Kenya’s stakes of tourism.
In his tenure he fought tirelessly to address poaching which has been the major challenge ailing Kenya’s tourism.
He also worked had to refurbish the public parks to increase the country’s tourism flow despite the security challenges it is facing from poachers.
