NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 4 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is currently in a meeting with a view of charting the way forward following the nullification of the August 8 presidential poll.
The Commission is under pressure from the ruling Jubilee Party to announce fresh election date as the Opposition agitates for changes among its ranks.
On Friday last week, immediately after the annulment of the election, Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati said they would be making changes to their personnel and processes in response to the Supreme Court’s findings that the August 8 presidential poll was compromised by irregularities and illegalities on the part of IEBC.
In response to which the IEBC has pleaded with the Supreme Court to expediently make available their detailed judgement to guide in the planning of the fresh poll.
So far the Opposition has demanded the removal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba as well as the ICT and legal directors given the flagging of the electronic result transmission system by the court and the finding that the election was not conducted in compliance with the law.
