NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 28—Activist Boniface Mwangi has been released after spending a night in jail.
No charges was filed against him.
Mwangi was arrested on Sunday following his call to disrupt the Standard Chartered Marathon by urging youth to occupy the roads set for the event.
His family later traced him to Kamukunji Police Station after his arrest at his home in Machakos.
Mwangi had rallied supporters to wear hats bearing national colours, carry flags, and bring placards criticizing President William Ruto’s administration.
Major roads, including Dagoretti Road Interchange, Southern Bypass/Ngong Road Interchange, and Southern Bypass/Langata Road Interchange, were closed, along with sections of the ICD turning point and the Southern Bypass from Waiyaki Way to facilitate the marathon event.
