8 people killed in accident in Nakuru along Soilo-Salgaa stretch

NAKURU, Kenya, Nov 6 – Eight people died early Monday morning at Ngata area in Nakuru along the dangerous Soilo-Salgaa stretch of the Great North Road.

Six of the died on the spot while the other two died while undergoing treat at Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital.

Nakuru County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi said the accident occurred at about 3:30am when a Matatu ferrying passengers from Kitale to Nairobi collided head on with a truck.

He said the truck driver who was driving in the opposite direction lost control of his vehicle and veered off his lane.

“The matatu driver is among the people who died on the spot while the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident,” said Ndanyi.

Ndanyi said the matau belongs to Farasi Sacco.

The Ngata stretch has been ranked among the worst black spot with the government having promised to duel the road to reduce road crashes.
