A British University student has won his fight against extradition to the US where he was facing trial and imprisonment for breaking anti-piracy laws, reports UK’s Dailymail.
24 year old Richard O’Dwyer got in trouble with the US authorities for running a website that helped people watch free films, infringing copyright laws, claimed the US prosecutors.
The prosecutors claimed O’Dwyer’s website – TVShack – hosted link to pirated films and TV programmes, earning the student ₤147,000 in advertising revenue.
But after negotiations between O’Dwyer’s lawyers and the Home Secretary, it was agreed Richard will pay a small fine and commit himself not to infringe copyright laws again. However, he will have to travel to the US to finalize the agreement.
