NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 14 – Motorists have gotten a reprieve after the cost of Super Petrol and Diesel went down by a further Sh5 in the latest pump price review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
in the update that will cover the next one month, Super Petrol will retail at Sh207.36 in Nairobi while the price of Diesel will be Sh196.47.
According to the authority’s Director General Daniel Barforia, the cost of Kerosine which has also gone down by Sh4.82 will be Sh194.23.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” he said in a statement.
He stated that the price of Diesel has been cross-subsidised with that of Super Petrol and that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will be compensated from the under recovery of costs from the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) fund.
President William Ruto and EPRA boss Daniel Kiptoo had stated that the drop if fuel prices will continue this year.
In December last year, EPRA slashed the pump prices by up to Sh5 per litre, the biggest drop since October 2021.
A litre of Super Petrol retailed at Sh212.36 while that of Diesel is at Sh201.47
