In addition, ERC Director-General Engineer Joseph Ng’ang’a is expected to address the subject of electricity tariffs.
Last month, the ERC announced a reduction in pump prices with the Super Petrol retail price being set at Sh106.80 per litre in Nairobi, Diesel at Sh94.52 and Kerosene at Sh76.31.
Ng’ang’a attributed the drop to the reduction of the average landing cost of imported diesel, kerosene and super petrol.
“The average landing cost of imported diesel decreased by 11.33 percent from US$891.59 per tonne in September 2014 to US$790.61 per tonne in October 2014,” Ng’ang’a said in a statement that also tabulated drops in the cost of petrol and kerosene.
Fuel prices are currently cheapest in the coastal city of Mombasa where a litre of Super Petrol is retailing at Sh103.46 per litre, Diesel at Sh91.20 and Kerosene at Sh73.54.
Mandera, which is 1,178 kilometres from Mombasa has the priciest fuel at Sh120.61 a litre of Petrol, Sh108.33 for a litre of Diesel and Sh90.90 for a litre of Kerosene.
“The purpose of the fuel pricing regulations is to cap the pump prices of the products which are already in the country, such that the importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered, while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” the ERC director explained last month.
The commission has installed a hotline number 0708 444 000 for people to alert of any fuel marketing companies that operate above the maximum allowable prices.
