KWS captures hyena in Juja

NAIROBI, Kenya Jan 30 – Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has captured a 9-month-old hyena cub in Juja as part of the ongoing ‘Operation Ondoa Fisi.‘

According to the organisation, the hyena was captured on Monday after a predator trap set up in Magomano.

Following the capture, KWS relocated the cub to the national park even as it expressed its gratitude to residents “during the operation.”

The operation was launched in November 2023 after hyenas invaded their land and killed a number of residents.

KWS also set up animal traps in areas where they had been spotted.

“The Kenya Wildlife Service has deployed four predator traps in the area and established three mobile teams to enhance safety and security,” KWS stated in a statement in their X account towards the end of last year as the hyenas continued to be a nightmare for the residents.

They stated that the captured animals get relocated to a National park away from human settlement.

KWS advised the residents not to run away or scream once they encounter a hyena and that they should talk to them with a commanding fear so as to instill fear in them.
