NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 19 – Jehovah’s Witnesses globally are set to observe the lord’s evening meal on Sunday in imitation of what Jesus instructed his disciples.
In line with this, they will follow the pattern set in passing a loaf of bread and wine, symbols that represent Jesus body and shed blood respectively. (Luke 22:19,20)
It will also give them a chance to reflect on the sacrifice that Jesus made when he gave his live for humans.
“It is a very important date to us as witnesses because we meditate on the love both Jehovah God and Jesus Christ showed us when he came down to earth to die for our sins,” the organization’s National spokesman in Kenya Victor Karoki stated.
“We encourage everyone to take a moment and reflect on this love as we go about our various activities,” he added.
Karoki described the Memorial as the most important day of the year for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“But around the world, millions of people who are not Jehovah’s Witnesses attend this special event. We hope that members of our local community will also join us in
remembering Jesus Christ,” he stated.
Hanifa Othieno who has been attending the Memorial for almost 50 years stated that the occasion is quite timely.
“Attending the Memorial and the special talk is one way of showing my gratitude to
Jehovah for what he has done for me and for millions of others. I appreciate the
sacrifice he made of Jesus so that I could gain everlasting life.”
The annual observance of the Lord’s Evening Meal will feature a talk highlighting the
significance of Jesus’ death and what it means for all of mankind.
Free and open to the public, the one-hour event will begin and conclude with prayer.
