
Kamau said the commission will be crucial in monitoring utterances and remarks made by politicians during the campaign period.
“This commission is very crucial as we approach the general election, that is why I am calling for the extension of the terms of its office holders,” the minister said.
The Kigumo MP said the just concluded by-election in Kangema, Kajiado and Ndhiwa went smoothly without any cases of hate speech being reported.
“You can see how peaceful the by elections were, that is what we want to happen in this country during the general election,” he said.
The minister was speaking in his Kigumo Constituency during a CDF meeting at the weekend.
“I am also urging my fellow MP’s to support the motion when it comes to Parliament” – Kamau.
Kamau said he will support the motion when it is brought before the house to ensure it remains in office.
“I am also urging my fellow MP’s to support the motion when it comes to Parliament, this is a very crucial commission which the country needs to have, especially at this campaigning period,” he said.
Some politicians are opposed to a motion seeking the extension of the term of commission chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia.
