NAIROBI, Kenya, May 15 – Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has returned to the corporate world after being appointed the Chief Commercial Officer position at Equity Group.

The appointment at Kenya’s biggest bank by customer numbers comes four months after Igathe resigned from the county job citing trust issues with Governor Mike Sonko.

Prior to running and winning the deputy gubernatorial position, Igathe was the Managing Director of Vivo Energy Kenya and the Chairperson of the Petroleum Institute of East Africa.

At the time of joining politics, Igathe said his intent was to restore East Africa’s largest city to its position as an economic powerhouse.

“I have gotten to the top in the corporate world. What else was there for me to do? I was just twiddling thumbs and swivelling on a chair, let me now to serve my country; I have always believed you learn, which I have learned… you earn which I have earned, then you serve. Serving is a calling, I have come here as a shepherd,” he told Capital FM News in May 2017.

But in January, Igathe took to Twitter to announce his resignation saying he had ‘failed to earn the governor’s trust’.
