NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 16 – The High Court in Nairobi on Wednesday directed parties to a suit over Fidel Odinga’s paternity on two minors to speed up DNA testing ahead of a mention on November 11.
The estate of Fidel, the first-born son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is said to be at the centre of a battle between the Odinga family and Fidel’s widow (Lwam Getachew Bekele) who had a child in his union with the late Fidel who died in 2015.
Two other children allegedly sired by Fidel have since emerged triggering the court case.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule, told lawyers Victor Olao who appeared for Odinga family and Rogers Sagana for the widow, that the issue at hand is to establish whether two minors were sired by Fidel.
The lawyers are to agree on modalities of the DNA testing include the lab that will collect samples from the two minors for testing.
Odinga family lawyer dismissed media reports that the suit emanated from a battle for Fidel’s estate. Olao said the matter in court is purely on the determination of the paternity of the two minors in question.
“The Odinga family has no problem over the minors being include the vast estate of Fidel subject to direction of the court,” he said
Justice Muchelule directed parties to file their responses to the petition that was filed in 2018 before November 11 when the petition will come up for further directions.
