NAIROBI, Kenya – Pharmaceutical manufacturer Cosmos Limited has upgraded its digital systems in partnership with Schneider Electric Kenya to improve monitoring, energy management and regulatory compliance.
The upgrade brings together building management, energy monitoring and digital validation systems to give Cosmos better visibility of its manufacturing operations and improve the accuracy and traceability of data.
The company said its previous monitoring systems had limitations in stability, integration and performance, prompting the move to a more centralised digital platform.
The new system includes an upgraded Building Management System (BMS) for real-time monitoring and control of manufacturing environments, as well as Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert (PME), which tracks electricity consumption and helps identify areas of high energy use.
Cosmos has also implemented a Pharma Compliance Package designed to provide secure and traceable data and support audit and regulatory requirements.
Jacob Malowa, Manager in charge of Engineering and Projects at Cosmos, said the system has also helped the company better understand its energy consumption..
“Beyond improving compliance, the platform has opened our eyes to how and where we consume energy. This transparency is helping us control costs, plan better, and support our long-term sustainability goals as a manufacturer,” Malowa said.
Schneider Electric East Africa Country President Ifeanyi Odoh said the project was designed to integrate operational, maintenance, energy and compliance functions rather than simply add new software
.“In pharmaceutical production, validated and traceable data is a requirement that must be met,” Odoh said.
The company said the upgraded systems have improved real-time monitoring, maintenance planning and access to data for quality and validation teams.
The project also gives Cosmos greater visibility of energy consumption, which the company said will help identify inefficiencies and support efforts to reduce operating costs.
Cosmos manufactures pharmaceutical products in Kenya, where producers are required to maintain strict controls over manufacturing conditions, equipment and production data.
