vivo Launchs Y500 in Kenya With 8,100mAh Battery

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 28 – Smartphone maker vivo has launched the Y500 in Kenya as it seeks to strengthen its presence in the mid-range smartphone market with a device that focuses on longer battery life, durability and privacy features.

The Y500 comes with an 8,100mAh battery, which vivo says is the largest currently available in a smartphone in Kenya. The device also features a new privacy system, a 1.5K AMOLED display with up to 5,000 nits peak brightness, and IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance.

The phone will be available in Silk White and Midnight Blue, with two storage options. The 6GB RAM and 256GB storage model will retail at Sh44,999, while the 8GB RAM and 256GB version will cost Sh49,999 through authorised vivo stores and retail partners across the country.

The launch comes as smartphone manufacturers continue to compete by offering larger batteries, improved displays and enhanced security features to attract consumers seeking longer-lasting devices without moving into the premium price segment.
