NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4 – Chinese manufacturers are stepping up efforts to win Kenyan buyers and distribution partners as nearly 120 companies prepare to gather in Nairobi next week.

The companies are betting on East Africa’s expanding consumer market to drive the next phase of their regional growth.

The East Africa (Kenya) Fashion Life Show, set for August 13 to 15 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, will bring together close to 100 Chinese companies and about 20 Kenyan firms.

The exhibition comes as demand for clothing, household goods, consumer electronics, beauty products and lifestyle items continues to rise across East Africa, driven by rapid urbanization, population growth and changing consumer preferences.

For Kenyan businesses, the event presents opportunities to secure new suppliers, negotiate distribution agreements and explore export partnerships.

At the same time, it is expected to intensify competition for local manufacturers, who continue to grapple with high production costs and competition from lower-cost imports.

Products on display will include textiles and apparel, footwear, fashion accessories, household goods, home décor, beauty and personal care products, consumer electronics, home appliances, toys, baby products, lighting, watches, packaging solutions and industrial inputs.

Business matchmaking sessions focusing on consumer electronics and watches are expected to facilitate direct negotiations between manufacturers and Kenyan importers, distributors and retailers

Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) President Erick Rutto said the exhibition provides local enterprises with an opportunity to strengthen their presence in regional and international markets.

“This regional exhibition presents an exceptional opportunity for Kenyan businesses to showcase their products, connect with buyers, distributors, manufacturers and investors from Kenya, China and across the East African region.

“It also gives local enterprises a chance to explore new export opportunities and strengthen regional trade linkages.”

The exhibition will also spotlight Kenya’s fashion industry through showcases involving local designers and fashion institutions.

Organizers say the initiative aims to strengthen local manufacturing value chains by fostering partnerships beyond finished products, including contract manufacturing, branding, technology transfer, distribution and cross-border e-commerce.

Afripeak Expo Kenya Managing Director Gao Wei said the exhibition has evolved into a platform focused on facilitating commercial partnerships and market access.

“The continued growth of the East Africa (Kenya) Fashion Life Show demonstrates the strong demand for practical trade platforms that connect manufacturers directly with African buyers and industry partners.

The 2025 edition attracted more than 70 exhibitors from Kenya and China, while organizers say this year’s increased participation reflects growing interest among international manufacturers in accessing East Africa’s consumer market through Kenya.
