NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4 – Capital DT Sacco Society Ltd Chief Executive Officer Stephen Murithi has been charged before a Meru court over the alleged misappropriation of Sh39 million belonging to the cooperative society.
According to the charge sheet seen by Capital Business, Murithi is accused of stealing the funds on diverse dates between February 23, 2026 and April 25, 2026 at the Sacco’s head office in Meru County.
The CEO, who was arrested by the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) Fraud Investigation Unit, faces three counts related to the alleged theft.
“On diverse dates between 23rd February, 2026 and 25th April, 2026 at Capital DT Sacco Society Ltd Head Office within Meru County, being the Chief Executive Officer of Capital DT Sacco Society, stole KSh39,000,000, property of Capital DT Sacco Society, which came into your possession by virtue of your employment,” the charge sheet states.
Murithi pleaded before the court and was released on a Sh1 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000, with two sureties.
The case will be mentioned on August 19, 2026, while the hearing has been scheduled for October 15, 2026.
