Bore tops up NSSF Board of Trustees with new appointment

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 18 — Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has appointed Mike Macharia to be a Member of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees, for a period of three years.

CS Bore made the appointment in a Gazette Notice dated May 17.

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (d) (i) of the National Social Security Fund Act, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection appoints-MIKE MACHARIA to be a Member of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 17th May, 2023,” read the Gazette Notice No. 6278.

The NSSF Board of Trustees consists of the Chairperson appointed by the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary responsible for matters relating to finance, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry for Labour responsible for matters relating to social security and seven other members appointed by the Cabinet Secretary.

A Managing Trustee sits in the board as an ex-officio member.

The NSSF offers social protection to all Kenyan workers.

Some of its functions include; providing social security protection to workers in the formal and informal sectors, registering members, receiving their contributions, manage funds of the scheme, process and pay out benefits to eligible members or dependents.
