NAIROBI, Kenya, August 23, 2026 – Kabras Sugar came from behind to beat KCB Rugby 15-5 in a thrilling final of the Driftwood 7s at the Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday evening.

A topsy-turvy encounter finally came to life with seconds to the end of the first half as Festus Shiasi grounded a loose ball in the try box to make it 5-0 for the bankers.

On resumption, the sugar millers lay siege to the bankers’ 22 and were rewarded in similar fashion as Griffin Chao’s kick and chase allowing him to eventually go over the whitewash for the leveler.

National team player Kevin Wekesa almost got into trouble after exchanging words with the referee and his decision to apologise proved beneficial a few minutes later as he put Kabras into the lead.

Receiving a pass on the right wing, Wekesa powered his way into the opponent’s 22 to put the ball over the white chalk for the second.

Rayvon Ambale missed the subsequent conversion but he redeemed himself by playing a huge role in their third try of the evening.

A pass to Jackson Siketi who dummied before laying on to Chao at the left corner post for the third of the game.

The win earns Kabras their second trophy of this year’s National Sevens Circuit (NSC) following their win at the Dala 7s in Kisumu, three weeks ago.
