NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 19 – African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala powered into Sunday’s semi-finals of the 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, after running a sub-10 and finishing second in his heat.
Omanyala clocked 9.97, just but edged out by American Noah Lyles who won the heat in a time of 9.95.
Omanyala had showed superb strength and improvement of his move off the blocks and by the time he was getting to the 50m mark, he had already established dominance.
He glanced over his shoulder to look at Lyles on the extreme end, having started in Lane Four and seeing he had a marginal gap on the lead slowed down at the line allowing Lyles, seeking three gold medals from Budapest, to win the race.
The Commonwealth Games champion is hoping for a better show compared to Eugene last year when he arrived just three hours to his heat.
He did not go past the semi-finals, where he finished third, but he is confident that this time round, he has what it takes to make the final.
The semis are scheduled for Sunday, 5:35pm.
