NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20 – The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has alerted the public to the existence of a counterfeit emergency contraceptive drug in the market.

The board says there is a counterfeit version of the popular emergency contraceptive brand Postinor-2 in circulation.

It says boxes of the counterfeit drug have been recovered in Uganda and they bear a remarkable similarity to the genuine product.
That is with the exception of a non-usable white scratch area on the reverse side.

“Our drug inspectors are carrying out investigations on the ground and at Ports of Entry and an e-shot has been sent out to stakeholders to be vigilant over the same,” the Board Registrar Kipkerich Koskei sought to assure on Friday.

He advised those who stock the product to ensure they are in possession of the genuine product and those who are concerned they may have taken a counterfeit version of Postinor-2 to seek medical advice.

It has further advised those who find themselves in possession of the counterfeit version to report it to the Board using the hotline 0702-475-976 or to send an email to [email protected] and copy it to [email protected]
