NAIROBI KENYA, August 6 — Police officers in Athi River Police Station, in coordination with members of the public, have rescued a medical doctor who was abducted by armed men demanding a Sh3 million ransom.
In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the victim was accosted while in the company of friends at Juja City Mall by three men.
“The suspects handcuffed their victim before forcing him into a Subaru Forester bearing registration number KBK 895W,” the DCI said.
According to the DCI, preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle’s side mirrors bore a different registration identity, KDQ 640F, in an apparent attempt by the perpetrators to conceal the vehicle’s identity during the commission of the crime.
The abductors drove the victim across multiple locations while subjecting him to severe torture and demanding the ransom payment. They subsequently directed the vehicle toward Athi River.
Acting on actionable intelligence and assistance from the public, police officers trailed and intercepted the getaway vehicle along the Mavemba–Mugoya Road in Athi River.
During the police intervention, two of the suspects managed to escape.
A third suspect was cornered by members of the public and subjected to mob violence before officers intervened, rescued him, and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he remains under tight police guard.
The victim was rescued safely during the operation. Officers recovered a pair of handcuffs believed to have been utilized during the kidnapping, while the Subaru Forester was impounded as an exhibit to support the ongoing criminal investigation.
Detectives have since launched a manhunt to trace and arrest the two remaining suspects.
