NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 8 – The global president of the world’s largest engineering professional society – the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) – Peter Staecker is expected in Nairobi this Saturday to make new strategic announcements.

He is set to hold meetings with strategic players in the private sector and the public sector, including the Engineers Board of Kenya, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), the Vision 2030 Secretariat and the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Staecker is scheduled to lead a high powered delegation from the body including Director of Social Innovations Programs Tara Wisniewski, the immediate former IEEE President Dr Gordon Day, General Counsel Eileen Lach, Director of the Educational Activities Douglas Gorham and Matthew Loeb, the Executive Director of the IEEE Foundation.

This visit is part of the body’s action towards increasing its direct involvement in growing Engineering and innovation industry in Kenya and the Africa as a whole.

“The IEEE is reviewing how it is involved in Africa. This kind of visit will enable the global leadership better understand how the institute can assist in expanding engineering capacity on the continent,” chairperson of the IEEE Kenya Vincent Kaabunga said confirming the visit.

Kaabunga said the institute here in Kenya is looking forward to gaining a lot from the professionals as it brace itself for greater roles in the growth of Engineering, Computing and Technology in the country and the region.

The trip to Kenya is timed to happen only days after the swearing in of Kenya’s new president Uhuru Kenyatta, whose new government has expressed strong commitment to foundations for a digital movement in Kenya.
