KISUMU, Kenya, Apr 4 – Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar Paddy Ahenda has died under unclear circumstances.

According to his brother, Patrick Ahenda, the former Kasipul Kabondo MP died Sunday night in a hospital in Qatar.

Patrick explained that the wife of the deceased who is in Qatar will brief them on what could have led to the death.

“I talked to my brother recently and he was not sick,” he said.

While confirming Amb Ahenda’s demise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said he had been admitted for five days following an incident at the gym.

“Ambassador Ahenda passed on at a hospital in Qatar where he had been in ICU for the last five days being attended to after collapsing in the gym last week,” the ministry said in a statement.

“His wife was at his side during his last days,” the ministry added.

The Foreign Office described Amb Ahenda as a distinguished diplomat who served the country with dedication.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs fraternity led by CS AMB Rachael Omamo and PS AMB Macharia Kamau send their deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of Amb. Ahenda,” the ministry said in a note to newsrooms.

The death of Ahenda comes in hot heels following the death of Kenyan Ambassador to Nigeria Wilfred Machage last month.
