NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 — On this day two years ago, Kenya witnessed one of the worst terror attacks in its history.
It lost 148 of its countrymen, 142 of them students and six of them servicemen, in a terrorist attack on the Garissa University College with only the September 21 attack on the Westgate mall in which 68 were killed and the 1998 US Embassy bombing in which more than 200 lost their lives, rivaling it in magnitude.
Two months following the attack, five suspects including a Tanzanian national, were charged with the crime of conspiring to commit a terrorist attack.
A year later, the jihadist believed to have masterminded the attack was killed in a raid. “Sixteen armed men, four of them senior commanders including Mohamed Mohamud Ali known as Dulyadin… were killed by the Somali commandos and the special forces of the Jubaland,” Abdirashid Janan, minister of state security for Jubaland, reported.
