Nairobi, Kenya, Nov 7 – State department for mining has issued rules and guidelines on the use of Fireworks during Diwali and Hindu New Year celebrations in the country.
The state department has directed that the festivities which are traditionally celebrated with Fireworks should be carried out in authorized places and venues strictly authorized by an inspector of explosives.
“Fireworks should only be used at authorized venues such as clubs, hotels, temples, sports grounds and school compounds,”Read a public notice released by the state department for Mining.
According to the public notice only qualified, experienced and sober persons shall be allowed to fire aerial shells.
“Display shells are limited to a maximum of four –inch caliber in all venues in urban and built –up areas except as may be exempted by an inspector of explosives in writing”
The Diwali and Hindu New Year celebrations are set to take place starting Friday November 10 to Sunday November 12.
The government through the ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs strictly warns that Fireworks display should be carried out within the requirements of the Explosives Act according to the law noting that the displays should be done in an orderly manner that should not inconvenience members of the general public.
The necessary permits to hold the Fireworks displays are obtained from the Ministry’s State Department for Mining offices in Nairobi,Mombasa ,Kisumu,Eldoret and Nyeri counties.
The Diwali festival of the Hindu community is one of the biggest and most important holidays of the year celebrated across the world.
