Nairobi, Kenya, Mar 13- Deputy Inspector General of Administration Police Noor Gabow will now lead the ongoing security operation in the North Rift.
The move is aimed at streamlining the structural command of the multi-agency operation involving officers drawn from the Kenya Defence Forces and police.
“The new Commander of Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift is Mr. Noor Gabow, who is also the Deputy Inspector General- Administration Police Service,” the National Police Service said Monday.
On Saturday March 11, Gabow met with the Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru at Chemolingot Multi-Agency Command Centre as part of their strategic security engagement.
On Sunday the government announced a raft of security measures disturbed and dangerous areas including Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu and Elgeyo Marakwet to flush out bandits from their hideouts.
Kindiki banned low-altitude aircrafts form flying over the disturbed areas in parts of the North Rift region as it intensifies a multi-agency operation to crash banditry.
The ban which took effect Monday 13 will remain in place until further notice.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said Sunday that only aircrafts engaged in the ongoing security campaign will be allowed to operate in the area.
“Apart from aircrafts taking part in the ongoing security operation, low altitude overflight by any other aircraft over any of the afore specified areas is hereby BANNED with effect from Monday 13th March 2023 0830 HOURS until further notice,” Kindiki said Sunday in Malaso, Samburu as he announced new security measures in the six disturbed areas sitting in the Kerio Valley Belts
He also ordered evacuation of 27 areas.
