NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu says the 42-member Presidential Task Force will deliver their final report within the first two weeks of December.
Machogu who spoke while monitoring the 2022 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination for grade six and class eight respectively stated that the recommendations will be presented to President William Ruto.
It is projected that from the report, the task force will apart from reviewing and evaluating CBC, check and recommend equitable access to education, especially for those facing social, economic and geographic marginalization, vulnerable populations, children and persons with special needs.
“The Presidential Task Force was formed some time in September by his excellency the president of the republic of Kenya. They were given clear terms of reference. They are covering basic, tertiary and university. They are coming up with a report soon and soon enough, probably in the first or second week of December,” said CS Machogu.
The CS added that thereafter, the head of state will make an announcement on the best way to implement the competency-based curriculum.
“They will be able to present the initial report to the president so that from there now, the president will be able to make an announcement to Kenyans where our grade seven will be domiciled come next year when we are opening the schools on the 23rd of January,” he added.
The head of state had earlier vowed to use the report to streamline the new curriculum to avoid burdening parents and teachers.
Machogu further refuted claims that parents will be inconvenienced if at all the CBC report will be delayed.
He urged parents to be patient and trust the government on implementation of new education policies.
“It will not be too late because that announcement is coming anytime early December. Whatever anxiety we have as parents will be settled and soon enough they are going to know where grade six will be domiciled whether in primary or secondary.”
The working task force committee chaired by Prof. Raphael Munavu is also set to review and recommend a tracking system to capture and enroll children of school age to ensure universal access to pre-primary, primary and secondary education before issuing the president with a final report.
