KILIFI, Kenya, Feb 10 – Golf is an intricate sport, given its unpredictability and the sheer amount of pressure of playing against so many talented golfers, all vying for a single title.
While battling treacherous weather conditions, the sport can also take a toll on the mind.
But for 17-year-old Kenyan amateur Chanelle Wangari, who missed the Magical Kenya Ladies Open (MKLO) cut for the second year running, said, “it’s just a motivation to keep working harder for next Ladies European Tour (LET) event.”
Despite being eliminated from moving on to the last two rounds, Chanelle had no ill feelings.
In fact, she’s now shifting focus on her next international tournament.
‘We move on from the MKLO as I have a few tournaments right now. I’m flying down south Africa on the 18th of February for the Africa Amateur Championship.” Chanelle said.
Asked about the missed cut on Friday, the she said: “Honesty, I think I did my best, I started off with a par and then once I bogeyed the second, mentally I went a bit down then I went on a bogey…and finished over then I was able to pick myself back up till we turned.”
“I then got some birdies here and there but, on the 13th, and 14th, I started going bogey after bogey, I think my mentality just switched a bit. Overall, I had a good round and enjoyed myself, I had really good people.”
Chanelle is happy with her mental game nevertheless and believes the missed cut was just a bad day at the office.
“I mean, everyone has goals. I came out here expecting better results but I’m not disappointed. There were a few expectations that I put to myself and not meeting them, obviously it’s just a motivation to keep working harder for next year’s LET event,” continued Channel.
