Amisi Endorses David Maraga-Edwin Sifuna Ticket in 2027

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 16 — Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has endorsed the prospect of former Chief Justice David Maraga teaming up with Edwin Sifuna in the 2027 General Election, saying the duo could offer the country a fresh political direction.

The Saboti legislator said Sifuna would be his preferred choice for deputy president should the Nairobi senator opt against mounting his own presidential bid.

“If Sifuna is not going to be a presidential candidate, the only person I will allow Sifuna to deputise is Maraga,” Amisi said.

The MP called on politicians to abandon ethnic-based political alignments and instead focus on leadership centred on governance, accountability and national unity.

“There is no going to special groupings. Don’t tell us to come and join you. Let them come and join us, all these tribal groupings,” he stated.

Amisi argued that Kenya must break away from traditional political formulas if the country hopes to achieve different outcomes.

“We can’t keep on doing the same things the same way and expect different results,” he added.

The legislator also revealed plans to launch a new political movement aimed at increasing youth representation in Parliament and other leadership positions.

“That is why I’m here. I will be launching the People’s Movement to enable young people to go to Parliament,” he said.

Maraga, who has signaled interest in the presidency ahead of the 2027 elections, has consistently positioned himself as a reform-focused leader committed to restoring institutional independence and improving service delivery.

In previous remarks, the former Chief Justice accused the current administration of excessive interference in government operations and pledged to strengthen accountability across public institutions if elected.

“I am going to rescue this country from the destruction caused by the current administration. I will stop micromanaging and demand results from each sector,” Maraga said.

The former Chief Justice has also made constitutionalism and the rule of law central pillars of his political message, arguing that strict adherence to the Constitution would help seal corruption loopholes and safeguard public resources.

“Abiding by the Constitution will help seal corruption loopholes that cause Kenya to lose vast public funds,” he said.

Maraga is associated with the United Green Movement Party, which advocates for democratic governance, constitutionalism, environmental sustainability and inclusive development.

The party also champions public participation, protection of rights and freedoms, and transparent leadership as part of its broader vision for Kenya’s future.
