Weird World: Man to sell £40,000 whisky collection to buy first home

A man is set to sell his £40,000 whisky collection to purchase his first home.

Matthew Robinson, 28, has received a bottle of Macallan whisky from his dad Pete, 64, every year for his birthday since he was 18 years old costing him just £5,000.

Pete said: “Looking at the bottle, I realized that it would be quite interesting to collect 18 bottles over 18 years and then give my son the final bottle, which would be his birth year.”

Now, Matthew intends to auction off his collection, which has been valued at £40,000 as the brand is now difficult to find according to experts.

He told Birmingham Live: “I’m currently looking at buying houses and having that money available to me is a massive weight off my shoulders – especially in these uncertain times.”

The collection of bottles – which are all in their original packaging – is being sold by brokers Mark Littler Ltd, with offers exceeding £40,000.
