NAIROBI, Kenya, August 21, 2026 – Olympic and world champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi returned to winning ways, with victory at the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland on Friday night.
Wanyonyi clocked 1:42.19 across the finish line to win the men’s 800m, ahead of Olympics bronze medalist Djamel Sedjati, who timed a season’s best (SB) of 1:42.31.
American Brandon Miller ran 1:42.55 to finish third.
The race was Wanyonyi’s first since a disappointing fourth place finish at the London Diamond League where he clocked 1:43.31 in the men’s 800m.
Elsewhere, in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, Kenyan-born Bahraini Winfred Yavi kept herself in the hunt for the Diamond League Trophy after triumphing in a meet record of 9:00.04.
World and Commonwealth Games champion Faith Cherotich of Kenya took second place after clocking 9:01.90 as Bouzayani Marwa of Tunisia came third in 9:05.55.
Another Kenyan in the race, America-based Doris Lemngole narrowly missed out on the podium after timing 9:07.09 in fourth place.
