University Life 101: Everything they don’t teach you

Can we talk about university life for a second? The long classes, crazy lecturers, money issues, and everything in between. It is a lot yet there is no manual to aid through the process.

One is left to figure out life in hopes not to mess it up. It is a time that is quite significant in a young person’s life being the prime years that have such an immense impact on how things pan out in the very end.

They are years that can give you a head start a very helpful head start in life after campus. You know, the one where you are expected by society to have a job, specifically a paying job, move out and have babies after a marriage of course.

So understanding that reality as early as your first year is your golden ticket to a somewhat easy after school life. So here’s what you need to know and wrap your head around as you transition into university, maneuver through university, or speak to your younger siblings about university.

1.Don’t waste time

Yes have fun, go out, drink, a little, and live life but don’t waste your life in the name of exploring yourself. Know that there is that which makes up what? 10% of your life and then there is the 80% that needs figuring out.

Nobody will tell you this, but the sooner you know what you want and find out how to go about it, the better. This is the head start that will save you a lot of needless sleepless nights, tears, and frustrations.

2.Internships

Apply for them. Even in the first year. The job market is not an easy one. However, as a young person with little to zero responsibilities, it gets easier to go through two or three which puts one at a better position of either being absorbed or landing a position.

This because of gained skills and experience. So get hustling, learn to write a curriculum vitae and cover letter, and get to work, literally.

3.Money

Make it and save it. Life is so much better when you are not broke. You get to live in a proper hostel or house, cater to your bills, and have extras for splurges such as traveling.

Financial freedom is exhilarating, it gives you the ticket to the life that you have always wanted to live. The common misconception for many would be to wait till after school to try and get chums but it shouldn’t.

The earlier the better.

It might seem like figuring out your finances is the top and the only tip in this piece and you are right it is. Figuring it out, your work life and finances creates the framework of everything else you are about. Think about it and after you are done, get your house in order.
