Ugandan music heavyweight Bebe Cool has unveiled Motivation, the second single from his much-anticipated album, Break the Chains.
Unlike his past works rooted in reggae and dancehall, Motivation takes a fresh turn, embracing the vibrant Afrobeats sound. With smooth, soulful vocals and an infectious rhythm, the song highlights Bebe Cool’s adaptability and artistic growth, making it a standout addition to his discography.
Produced by Ugandan duo Bushington (George Kagoda) and Melanin Boy, Motivation blends mellow Afrobeats grooves with heartfelt lyrics centered on love, inspiration, and commitment. The track’s minimalist production allows Bebe Cool’s signature husky vocals to shine, delivering an emotionally rich listening experience.
The accompanying music video, directed by South African filmmaker Garrick Williams, brings the song’s theme to life. It tells a story of love beyond material wealth, emphasizing genuine connection and shared dreams between partners. The visuals complement the song’s essence, portraying Bebe Cool and his love interest as equals in both life and business.
Bebe Cool describes the project as a bold exploration of African music, blending diverse sounds with powerful storytelling. “I can’t wait for everyone to experience the full range of this album and the stories behind it,” he shared.
In addition to the release, Bebe Cool has introduced Motivation Week, an annual initiative launched in Uganda following Valentine’s Day. This event aims to celebrate individuals who inspire others across different fields while fostering discussions on perseverance and ambition. During a roundtable with media personalities, Bebe Cool reflected on his journey, sharing how his passion and drive led him to Nairobi to pursue his musical dream. He noted, “Motivation is key to success at any stage in life. I have children growing up, and even my peers and I still have room to grow.”
Bebe Cool’s rise in music dates back to 1997 when he took a bold step by moving to Nairobi. He became one of the first artists signed to Ogopa Deejays, a label that played a significant role in shaping East African music. In 2004, he teamed up with Kenyan reggae and hip-hop duo Necessary Noize (Wyre and Nazizi) to form the East African Bashment Crew. The group gained continental recognition with hits like Africa Unite, Kube, This Tune, and Fire Anthem from their debut album Fire. Bebe Cool’s influence has remained strong, cementing his place as a pioneer in Uganda’s music industry.
