UDA leads party popularity at 32% in new Politrack survey

NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 1 -President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leads national party popularity at 32 per cent, according to a new Politrack Africa survey released on Thursday.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is second at 11.7 per cent, closely followed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 10.6 per cent.

Jubilee records 6.9 per cent, Wiper 5.6 per cent, Kenya Kwanza 3.5 per cent and Azimio 3.2 per cent, according to the survey.

The findings also show that 9.1 per cent of respondents preferred not to disclose their party affiliation, while 7.3 per cent said they did not support any party. Another 2.3 per cent were unsure, while 6.1 per cent identified with other parties.

KANU and the African National Congress (ANC) each recorded 0.6 per cent, while FORD Kenya had 0.5 per cent.

The party popularity findings come as the survey also tested presidential preferences ahead of the 2027 General Election.

President Ruto leads the presidential preference tally at 45.1 per cent among respondents asked who they would vote for if elections were held today.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna follows at 19.6 per cent, with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 10.3 per cent.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has 7.2 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua records 6.0 per cent. A further 8.4 per cent of respondents are undecided.

Prof George Wajackoyah records 1.1 per cent, while former Justice Minister Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga each have 0.8 per cent.

Former Siaya Governor James Orengo has 0.4 per cent, while businessman Jimmy Wanjigi records 0.3 per cent.

The survey also assessed public sentiment on the direction of the country, with 45.2 per cent saying Kenya is moving in the right direction and 44.6 per cent saying it is moving in the wrong direction. Another 10.2 per cent were unsure.

Politrack conducted the survey between September 15 and 25 among 20,419 respondents across all 47 counties. The national estimates were weighted according to each county’s share of registered voters, based on a registered-voter base of 22,102,532.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points at a 95 per cent confidence level.
