NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 1 – Two police officers have been arrested after a botched attempt to steal from an Uber driver.
The two law enforcers had boarded the taxi but turned against the driver, whom they bundled into the back seat, as one of them took to the wheel.
While they had indicated they were going to Pangani, police say they instead drove towards Eastleigh; but the vehicle crashed and as a result stalled at Kilimanjaro roundabout, within Eastleigh area.
“Police officers who were on patrol swiftly arrested them after members of the public raised an alarm,” a police report seen by Capital News reads.
They were arrested while they tried to escape on foot during the late night incident. They will be charged in court, Monday.
This is the latest case of a police officer being arrested for engaging in crime, in a worrying trend.
This year alone, more than 30 police officers have been arrested and arraigned, for engaging in crime according to police statistics.
