NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 15 – China’s Tsinghua University School of Journalism and Communication has partnered with city developer Rendeavour to establish a Research and Teaching Base for Global South Communication at Tatu City, in a move aimed at strengthening China-Africa academic and business ties.
The new base will facilitate research, teaching programs, field visits, and dialogue between Chinese and African scholars, while offering students exposure to African contexts. “This collaboration with Rendeavour offers students and scholars direct engagement with African contexts, enabling real-world learning and cross-cultural understanding,” said Professor Yuezhi Zhao, Director of the new base.
Over the last three years, Tatu City has hosted more than 1,000 Chinese academics and business leaders exploring investment, healthcare research, and local development. The city currently houses seven Chinese enterprises with investments worth USD 400 million, generating over 10,000 jobs in textiles, healthcare, renewable energy, construction, automotive, and real estate.
“This partnership provides live case studies and seamless access to Africa for Chinese entrepreneurs and scholars,” said Stephen Jennings, Founder & CEO of Rendeavour. The collaboration will also extend to Rendeavour’s other projects in Nigeria, Ghana, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, broadening the scope of China-Africa engagement.
