Air
Directed by Ben Affleck and written by Alex Covery, Air, draws on real life events to tell the story of how Sonny Vaccaro (Matt Damon) an ambitious Nike salesman who believes then- rookie and future NBA superstar Michael Jordan will change basketball and should be the face of the iconic Air Jordan shoe. In 1984, Nike’s basketball shoe division was struggling due to the low sales while its rival companies Converse and Adidas had all the best NBA players wearing their shoes. Vaccaro convinces Nike co-founder Phil Knight (Affleck) to devote all of its resources to signing Jordan and that Nike should pursue him and try to convince him to sign with them- a gamble that led to the billion dollar empire. Michael Jordan (himself) doesn’t appear in the movie but he reportedly met with Ben Affleck and gave him his blessing- and he apparently suggested that Affleck cast Viola Davis as his mum Deloris Johnson. Sisu
The film follows Aatami Karpi- fashioned in a simple woolen shirt and suspenders, a gold miner and former military commander whose family was slaughtered during World War 2. When Nazis steal his gold, they quickly discover that they have just tangled with no ordinary miner. Aatami who has lived his solitary life with his horse and loyal dog will turn into a vengeful killing machine. The one-man death squad will go to outrageous length to get his gold back- even if it means slicing, decapitating and grenading every Nazi in his path. Available in cinemas- it’s a film that loses its impact without a big screen and huge speakers to immerse the viewers within the film.
Guys Ritchie’s: The Covenant
Guys Ritchie’s The Covenant follows US army sergeant John Kinley( Jake Gyllenhal) and Afghan interpreter Ahmed(Dar Salim). Ahmed was a mechanic and was once sympathetic to the Taliban, but he turned on them after they killed his son. He’s working for the Americans because he wants out of his country and the US has promised visas to its Afghan Interpreters. After an ambush, Ahmed goes to Herculean mode and somehow manages to transport John who is badly injured to safety. When Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given a free safe passage to America as promised, because the visa approval process is a bureaucratic nightmare, he must repay his debt by returning to the war zone to retrieve them before the Taliban hunts them down. Its distinctive visuals and sounds are certainly done justice by a cinema viewing.
The Little Mermaid
The little mermaid is the beloved fantasy story of Ariel (Halle Bailey) a beautiful and spirited young mermaid who is constantly collecting things from the human world and is filled with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triston’s ( Javier Bardem) daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel desperately wants to see the world above the ocean, and while visiting the surface she saves Prince Eric (Jonah Haver-King) and falls in love with him. Following her heart, she makes a pact with the sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to experience life on land but at a price. It’s available for viewing at a theatre near you.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider verse
Spiderman is one of the most iconic superheroes of all time and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) returns for the next chapter of the Oscar winning Spider-verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full time spiderman across the multiverse to join forces with his friend Gwen Stacy and a new team of spider-people to close the tears created by the collider in the (2018 film) Into the spider-verse, that are still causing anomalies. This is one of the most exciting and jaw dropping films to come out in years that is available for viewing at a movie theatre near you -with great amount of new characters such as Spider Woman ( Issa Rae), Pavitr Prabhakar( Karan Soni), the Spider man of Mumbattan, Spider Punk and plenty more than you can count. It’s an adventure that it’s most immersive and hypnotic when seen in a cinema.
