The Kennedy Centre Honors – 2005
Two years into her solo debut, Beyonce was well on her way to stratospheric success. Or what else do you make of a young pop star paying tribute to one the Queen of Rock and Roll? Beyonce took to the stage decked in a replica of the ‘Simply the Best’ singer’s 1978 sequined Bob Mackie dress. The ‘Proud Mary’ homage performance saw the singer pay homage to Turner with a rendition of the legend’s ‘Proud Mary’ classic at the annual Kennedy Centre Honors in 2005, 27 years after her idol first wore it.
