TikTok Introduces New Safety Guidelines For Livestreaming

TikTok Live is set to introduce new Live Monetization Guidelines and educational initiatives aimed at cultivating positive, authentic, and joyful communities on the platform.

These guidelines specify that certain content, including inauthentic or low-quality material, will not be eligible for monetization on TikTok Live.

While most creators already adhere to these standards, those who do not will receive notifications and may face restrictions on their access to monetization features. TikTok’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service will continue to serve as the foundational standards for permissible content on the platform, including on Live.

In addition, TikTok is enhancing its onboarding process for new Live creators to better support and welcome them safely. The platform maintains stringent live streaming requirements, mandating that creators be at least 18 years old and meet additional criteria to go Live. Newly eligible Live creators will now gain access to advanced monetization features in phases, allowing them to learn Live’s rules while growing their audience.

To assist with this, TikTok is launching a new Live Safety Center resource and updating its in-app Live Safety Education Center. These resources will provide creators with information on policy violations and educational content.

Waseem Sayegh, Head of TikTok Live for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Pakistan, stated, “We believe these updates will empower our Live community’s creativity while ensuring that our features promote the positive interactions they’re intended for. The vast majority of Live creators already follow our safety rules and Monetization Guidelines, and we will continue to develop resources, moderation processes, and tools to help them build safe, inclusive, and authentic Live communities.”

These updates are part of TikTok’s ongoing commitment to enhancing Live safety and content quality. The platform employs over 40,000 individuals alongside advanced technology to maintain safety, including dedicated teams and detection models specifically for Live content.

TikTok provides more than 10 customizable safety tools for Live creators, along with numerous features that allow viewers to personalize their Live content experience.
