The Citizen Television prime-time news presenter is famed for her mellowed voice, her appeal emotion, her signature Ankara-style outfits, and her flair for the Swahili language. And it does not end on the screen. Together with her husband, Rashid Abdalla they are filmmakers and co-directors of some sensational Kenyan soap operas – Zora and Maria. Lulu is famed for her modesty that comes out amid the glitz of Kenyan television.
Olive Burrows
The NTV news anchor is defined by her suave style of doing her trade. She has a compelling on-air personality in looks, competence, and composure. Before moving to the Aga Khan’s media house, she had a stint at Capital FM where the centerpiece of her portfolio was her interview with Former US president Barack Obama.
Victoria Rubadiri
Currently on Citizen TV, this icon has stood the test of time, rising to seniority. For her illustrious work, she has racked up awards, most notably, the BBC Komla Dumor Award 2020. She commands the screen with her eloquence, her editorial instincts, and top-notch journalism professionalism.
Yvonne Okwara Matole
Yvonne identifies with the business beat, but to viewers, she has placed herself as the break-down journalist, a tag she wears thanks to her ‘Explainer’ news segment on Thursday’s edition of Citizen Television’s News Night, she also sits on the panel of Newsgang, a late-evening discussion program. She is a top business journalist and is a business editor and host of the weekly Business Today show. When she is off the screens, Yvonne puts in a lot of time at the gym and she has a well toned body to show for it.
Amina Abdi Rabar
The presenter of NTV’s The Trend, has had a home run in the Kenyan media. She started at Homeboyz Radio, then rose to Capital FM, K24 TV, Maisha Magic and now NTV. Away from Television, Amina Abdi is a corporate emcee and influencer. She has also worn the hat of a brand ambassador for various brands like Coke Studio Africa and UNHCR.
Akisa Wandera
The political reporter and presenter is the youngest news anchor in this list. She debuted on KTN News in 2016 from Ebru Television. To her viewers, she is gentle, warm, and comes out well-read when dissecting political affairs. In part, these qualities and skills are behind her meteoric rise – she joined KTN News in 2016 as reporter and news anchor, then was elevated to KTN Prime news in 2018. Now, she is warming up to the BBC after exiting Standard Group mid-February. Needless to say, Akisa is an inspiring success story.
Joyce Omondi Waihiga
The talent co-hosts Citizen Television’s Rauka Gospel show with Ken the DJ on Sunday morning. She has been educated in the US — Knox College, Illinois (bachelor’s degree), and Georgetown University, Washington (postgraduate degree.) The award-winning gospel singer is a bubbly personality that weaves in music talent and scholarly genius.
Although, the Kenyan television personalities are ever changing, for the most part, these ladies have been consistent in many ways.
