Smart Applications International inducted into Superbrands Hall

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 6 – Healthcare technology firm Smart Applications International has been inducted into the Hall of Superbrands, marking more than 20 years of operations in Africa’s digital health sector.

The induction is the highest recognition by Superbrands and is awarded to companies that demonstrate consistent performance, strong brand reputation and long-term impact. Smart Applications had previously earned Superbrand status before the latest honour.

Founded to address gaps in healthcare delivery, the Nairobi-headquartered firm operates in several African countries, providing digital health and biometric solutions to governments, insurers and healthcare providers. Its platforms, including Medismart and SmartHealth+, are used to support healthcare financing, patient identification and service delivery.

Group Managing Director Harrison Muiru said the recognition reflects the company’s role in improving access to healthcare.

“This recognition acknowledges the trust placed in us by our partners and the work our teams continue to do to improve healthcare access across Africa,” Muiru said.

Over the years, the company has supported Universal Health Coverage programmes, maternal and child health initiatives, and digital identity systems, helping to reduce fraud, improve patient identification and strengthen health data management.

Smart Applications said its focus on data protection, cybersecurity and governance has enabled it to operate across different regulatory environments while expanding its footprint on the continent.

Group Director for Insurance Business Esther Muiruri said the induction reflects collaboration with public and private sector partners.

“Our focus remains on strengthening healthcare systems and supporting more efficient service delivery across Africa,” she said.

Smart Applications International is an ISO-certified healthcare technology company headquartered in Nairobi, with operations across multiple African markets.
