It seems that the moment the calendar flips to February, almost every couple starts obsessing over roses, plans for Valentine’s Day weekend and you start to notice all the red, white and pink hearts, chocolate and stuffed animals at the malls and supermarkets. But an equally important holiday falls just the day before, the designated day of love, on Feb 13: Galentine’s Day. And no, that’s not a typo.
Thanks to Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, women now gather on this made up holiday to celebrate friendships. This unofficial holiday (totally official in our minds) that is becoming more and more popular each year, has quickly grown over the past 10-plus years and now is a celebrated event for women.
No matter what your relationship status- married, single or somewhere in the middle- the unique bond you have with your besties is something none of us should ever take for granted. These gal pals come in different types, but every woman needs them in her life. After all your girlfriends are the ones who have been there for you during the ups and downs life brings- the one who text you when you start a new job, checks in after you’ve had a baby, and that’s worth celebrating.
If you want to bring all your besties together and spread the love to all your lady friends this Valentine’s season you should throw a Galentine’s party. To help you plan the perfect Galentine’s Day event, read on to learn how you can plan the best all- girls party.
1. Home- spa
Spa days can be essential to your mental well- being and everyone deserves a day of pampering, but hitting the spa can be a little pricey. If you want to treat your friends, you can buy plenty of beauty products, make some home-made body scrubs and enjoy a DIY spa day. Hit up the supermarket and purchase sheet masks and candles and you’ll have yourselves a guaranteed good time.
2. Cook a meal together
For those who can stand the heat plan ahead to create a feast with your friends. 3. Karaoke
Host a karaoke celebration at your place this Galentine’s day. Invite everyone over and jam out with your besties to some of your favorite tunes. All you need is a Youtube video with lyrics on your Tv and a hyped- up audience. Take the party to the next level with fun wigs.
4. Paint and Sip
Painting and sipping are two things that instantly mix. You can find a paint class, book a space for this event or you can also gather your own materials and have your friends bring their favorite drinks for an at-home session. Be sure to choose an easy subject to replicate, unless your friends are more advanced.
5. Secret Cupid
If you’re new to secret cupid, you can make it a new Galentine’s tradition. Secret Cupid is just like secret Santa. Once you have a list of attendees, randomly pick names from a bowl or a hat and assign gift givers per person. An easier way to do this is to draw names online- then you don’t have to get together for the draw. Have everyone come together on Galentine’s day to present their gifts, just like Cupid.
6. Sleepover
You are never too old to have a sleepover with your best friends. You and you girls can get cozy in pajamas and treat yourself to sweet and savory snacks while catching up on everything you’ve missed since your last get-together. If you’re not into an activity that requires a lot of energy, you can organize a game-board night. With options like Monopoly, Cards Against Humanity, Truth or Dare…. the possibilities for play are endless.
You can create your own games. Have everyone write down their worst date experiences and put it in a hat; then everyone can take turns reading the stories aloud and trying to guess who wrote it.
