Former Sol Generation signee Crystal Kagehi Asige is now a nominated senator.
The singer is among the 67 Senators set to be sworn in today Thursday (08.09.2022).
In a gazette notice by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, the Extravaganza hit star’s name is among those approved.
The ‘Ninajijua’ hitmaker, who is visually impaired, was nominated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the persons with disability category.
Asige, who hails from Mombasa County, was diagnosed with glaucoma, a condition that led to her losing her sight in her early 20s.
Gospel singer Emmy Kosgei took to social media to congratulate her father Jackson Kosgei after he was nominated for member of parliament position under the United Democratic Alliance.
Mr Kosgei will represent people with special needs in the National Assembly.
There are 20 nomination slots in the Senate out of which 16 slots are directly set aside for women while four are set aside for youth representatives (male and female) and persons with disability (male and female) respectively.
Notable persons nominated in various positions include Sabina Wanjiru Chege, Karen Nyamu and John Mbadi among many others.
